Jobs/Roles in the ECE Community: National/Federal Level

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Administration for Children and Families. Directory of Program Services. Prepared by the Office of Public Affairs ... Retrieved from, https://www.acf.hhs.gov/sites/default/files/.../acf_directory.pdf
This website is a directory of Program Services for U. S. Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families.  It is quite detailed about the services and resources for children and families.  I see that these services are important for families and children, and is present how to attain the things that is important for families and helping children.
ACH Child and Family Services, Retrieved from  http://www.achservices.org/how-we-help.html
I have read their mission and the services they provide, abuse and neglect, adoption, behavioral care, crisis intervention counseling, and family support center.  This is a service for Arlington, Texas: a source and example for others to follow.  This organization has been in existence since 1915. Their funding partner is the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.  This is not necessarily a government agency but it is supported by the state of Texas.
WebMD is a medical consultant group of doctors that give their expertise for your question, and yet they advise seeking a local doctor if the condition is serious.  This particular article has lots of information about good nutrition for children and ideas for parents.  I have used this website personally and had good information.  After consulting my physician, I was encouraged that WebMD is a good resource.  My physician said that she would validate WebMD.
The goals and purpose of the ACH Child and Family Services is the ultimate goal and I admire them.  I wish I had time to get to that goal.  I hope that my CoP will be just a small service that follows their example.
This website is an introduction for eighty-one different agencies that award grants and loans for single parents.

National Alliance for Nutrition & Activity, Retrieved from http://www.cspinet.org/nutritionpolicy/nana.html
This organization advocates policies and programs within the federal government healthy eating and activity to reduce illness, diabetes, and other disabilities and costs that are caused by cancer, heart disease, and blood pressure.

My skills that are needed to provide any services to my ideal community of single parents are communication, advertising, teaching and loving each person contacted.  I believe that I have the skill of communication, teaching and loving but will need assistance in advertising or notification of the program and how it is designed to minister.

  1. Dear Barbara, I think the jobs you have chosen sounds very interesting especially the Federal grants Wire. I have always been interesting in having a non-profit organization but I never heard of this till now. It sounds very rewarding and can help single families get a head start on life-skills to help them to be successful. Thanks for sharing

  2. Barbara,

I enjoyed reading your post this week and I found a lot of interesting ideas from your information. I especially liked the information on Federal Grants Wire. I am a grand reviewer for the Office of Head Start and when I first started, I did not have any clue what I was doing. I felt very over my head and confused on many avenues regarding grant writing and reviewing. It took a lot of practice, reading and working late hours but I finally got it. I believe anyone that wants to work within a non-profit organization should have some experience with grants.

  3. Barb,
Thank you for the great resources, especially Federal Grants Wire. Many programs depend on grant monies to operate. Grant money would be greatly needed and appreciated for those trying to get a program started that benefits young parents.
My daughter was a family and consumer science teacher but switched fields to ensure a job because schools are cutting this valuable program. She taught nutrition and parenting classes.

  4. Hi Barbara,
I found your sites interesting. I have also used WebMD, for personal use, but agree that it is a valuable website. It gives great resources to those who may have questions, concerns, but are not able to call a doctor immediately on the phone. Also, the website for nutrition and healthy eating should be a exceptional website to apply and use for your capstone project and challenge. I wish you the best of luck and know that you will achieve what you are wanting to.

  5. Barbara,

I really like that you included the federal grant site; that could be a resource for many of us based on our challenges for the Capstone project. The nutrition sites are definitely sites that I would use to teach parents as well as children about proper nutrition. Thank you for sharing!
